A short canoe kayak trail around the suburban lake of Mawson Lakes
This lake is well protected and paddlers are close to its perimeter throughout the paddle, however always check weather and wind conditions prior to departure
Access point: Grassy area next to the Mawson Lakes Rowing club
This is a short paddle suitable for novices. A loop around the lake is less than 2km. The lake is well protected and thus is suitable for beginners.
Avoid times when the rowing club is busy, particularly early in the morning.
A surprisingly large variety of birds can be seen around the lake including
- black tailed native hens
- Australian wood ducks
- White Ibis
- Spotted crakes
- Australian magpie (Piping shrike)
and on occasion pelicans and black swans are also seen
Note: The pelicans all sport yellow wing tags each with an individual number and the words “Adelaide Zoo”.
Nil at the launch site, however shopping centre with cafe’s and restaurants nearby.
